World Bank Prepares a New Partnership Framework for the Republic of Moldova, with Investments Exceeding €735 Million

World Bank Develops a New Partnership Framework with the Republic of Moldova

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Ulrich Schmitt, Country Manager of the World Bank Group for the Republic of Moldova, discussed the projects supported by the World Bank in the country and the main development priorities for the coming period.

The Prime Minister appreciated the support provided by the international financial institution and emphasized the importance of using available resources efficiently, so that investments generate tangible results for citizens and the economy.

Priority Areas for Investment

The discussions focused on continuing cooperation in strategic areas, including infrastructure development, strengthening energy resilience, digitalization, agriculture, and improving public services.

Vasile Tofan reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining a continuous dialogue with the World Bank and accelerating the implementation of ongoing projects, as well as identifying and launching new development initiatives.

World Bank Portfolio in the Republic of Moldova

Currently, the World Bank Group’s active portfolio in the Republic of Moldova comprises 14 operations, with a total value of €735.4 million. It includes 11 investment projects, one budget support program, and two projects at an advanced stage of preparation.

Investments are directed towards key sectors, including energy and energy efficiency, water supply and sanitation, agriculture and irrigation, education, healthcare, the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, rural connectivity, and resilience building.

More Than €1.6 Billion Invested in Cooperation

Since the beginning of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the World Bank, more than 45 operations have been implemented, with a cumulative value of approximately €1.6 billion.

Current cooperation is carried out under the 2023–2027 Partnership Framework, while the World Bank has already launched the process of developing a new Partnership Framework, which will set out the directions for cooperation for the coming period.
