Founded in 1973 in a complex economic and political context, RIFIL has become an example of perseverance, innovation, and social responsibility.
In 1973, the RIFIL company was established, marking a significant moment in the Eastern European communist economy. It was the first company in this region where state and private capital collaborated in an industrial activity. The company’s headquarters were located in Savinesti, with a social capital of 2,333,000 USD, and the partnership was formed between the Central Industrial Chemical Fibers Savinesti (52% of the social capital) and ROMALFA SpA Biella from Italy (48% of the social capital).
In 1974, construction works began for RIFIL’s production facilities in Savinesti, and in 1975, the company started hiring and producing fibers. In 1976, RIFIL took measures to enter new markets and acquired modern machinery, becoming the first economic agent in Romania to use leasing for financing and factoring.
Between 1989 and 1990, after 16 years since its establishment, the company ceased its operations for political reasons, and the staff was transferred to the Săvinești Combine. However, in December 1989, in the context of political changes in Romania, efforts were made to resume activities, and in 1990, RIFIL was re-established.
In the following years, RIFIL continued to expand and develop new technologies, and in 1996, it became a joint-stock company. In 1998, RIFIL purchased the land and production facilities from Fibrex SA, and in 1999, it further expanded its activities through the acquisition of other companies in the industry.
In 2004, a fire affected the factory, but it was rebuilt, and operations were resumed. In the following years, RIFIL consolidated its position in the market and developed new production technologies. In 2007, RIFIL merged with ROMALFA SA.
From 2013 to 2023, RIFIL continued to expand its production and became a majority shareholder in other companies in the field. Today, RIFIL has an annual turnover of approximately 150 million USD and exports its products to 27 countries.
Throughout this evolution, RIFIL has had a significant impact on the community and has supported numerous humanitarian and cultural initiatives, serving as an example of social responsibility. The principles underlying RIFIL’s activities include integrity, loyalty, responsibility, respect for the law, fairness, customer satisfaction, experience and competence, tradition, teamwork, objectivity, transparency, non-discrimination, and confidentiality.
RIFIL continues to evolve and contribute to the development of the Romanian community and economy, maintaining its status as a successful example in its field.
The continuity factor to date has been Luigi Bodo, currently the Chairman of the Board, who fought for RIFIL to continue its production and reach the heights it has achieved.
In the conduct of its activities, RIFIL’s motto is: “OUR GOAL IS SUCCESS” but the way we achieve success in business is equally as important as success itself, evidenced by consistently excellent results, and the “POWER TO GROW” – our slogan on the occasion of the 50th anniversary since its establishment.
