TOPIC: „Siret Industrial & RDI Hub”
The Mayor of Siret, Adrian Popoiu highlighted the transformation and development of the city of Siret despite numerous challenges such as the war and the pandemic. „Siret is well-known and there’s no need to repeat its history. What we have done at the border with the war, the pandemic, and many other difficulties, but we managed to overcome them all,” said Adrian Popoiu.
After 1990, Siret, like the entire North-East Region, lost many jobs. „In 1989, Siret had 6,000 jobs; now we have about 10 times fewer,” added the official. In an attempt to revitalize the local economy, between 2009 and 2010, a special economic zone of over 20 hectares was created, which became an industrial park in 2013-2014. In 2016, Siret Industrial Park became operational, occupying 25 hectares.
„We have slowly learned that we need infrastructure, skilled workforce, and other resources to attract investors,” emphasized the mayor. With the support of the President of ROREG and the General Director of ADR NE, Vasile Asandei, since 2016, European funds have been accessed for important projects.
Among the achievements is the establishment of a Lifelong Learning Center and a Vocational School at Lațcu-Vodă College, recognized by the European Commission. „There is an appetite for those trained in the Siret School, and this project has been offered as a best practice example,” explained the Mayor of Siret.
Additionally, the Industrial Park hosts a Scientific and Technological Park, essential for research and innovation. „Due to these projects, business agents have started to focus their attention on us,” added the mayor.
Currently, the city is close to finalizing a contract with a German company in the automotive field, which would create over 600 jobs. „We continue to attract investors to the Industrial Park,” concluded Adrian Popoiu.
