100 Million Euro Project in Bacău Announced by Ion Țiriac

Billionaire Ion Țiriac plans to invest 100 million euros in Bacău after his plans to build an ice rink in Brașov were blocked by local council members

They did not provide him with suitable land to develop a sports complex that would have included a judo hall and three fencing lanes, according to information from prosport.ro.

Țiriac, who owns land in Bacău, sees this as an opportunity for an ambitious project, although he has not yet decided whether to build a school, a sports club, or a kindergarten. He stated, “If yesterday there were 6 people from here to Bacău… I didn’t even know if it was still possible, in 2024, to spend 9 hours driving just to go there. We need to see if we can make a school, or a club, or a kindergarten, or whatever… there is a property there that we’ve been sitting on for 40 years and we don’t know what to do with it. But all these things are there, and we hope, with all the promises we have, that it will be much simpler in the future.”

Moreover, Țiriac emphasized that he will no longer make public promises regarding future projects, stressing that their success depends on others: “You won’t catch me again saying I’ll do this or that. Because it doesn’t depend on me. Then, if it doesn’t depend on me and someone doesn’t keep their word, I end up looking bad: ‘Look what Țiriac said he would build a 15,000-seat hall.’ Yes, yes, and I would have done it not for 300 million, but somewhere around 100 million. Why are we talking about this?”

Ion Țiriac also has another project in Bacău, announced 6 years ago, a “socio-sports center” in collaboration with the Spanish club Real Madrid, which is still in its early stages.
