Europe’s tallest suspension bridge will be built in Romania, in Parva, through an investment financed with European funds

Parva Commune in Bistrița-Năsăud County is set to host a spectacular tourism infrastructure project: the construction of a suspension bridge over the Rebra Valley, located at an altitude of approximately 620 metres, in the area of the Rodna Mountains National Park.

Thanks to its impressive location and the panoramic views it will offer, the new structure is expected to become a major attraction for tourists.

The investment contract has been signed

Local authorities have formalised the design and execution contract with Dimex Company, with the investment estimated at approximately RON 23.8 million, excluding VAT. In addition to building the suspension bridge, the project also includes the modernisation of Dealul Tisei Street, thereby contributing to the development of infrastructure in the area.

European funding and local contribution

The project benefits from funding through the North-West Regional Programme 2021–2027, while the local administration is contributing 2% of the investment value, equivalent to approximately EUR 120,000. The main objective is to capitalise on the region’s tourism potential and stimulate local economic development.

The mayor sees the project as an opportunity for development

Mayor Ioan Strugari believes the new bridge will transform Parva into a tourist destination of national interest and create opportunities for the community. According to him, the investment represents an important step towards revitalising the locality and attracting young people, as well as cultural and creative initiatives.

The mayor stressed that a lack of development can, over time, lead to the decline of Romanian villages, which is why he supports the implementation of projects designed to offer new prospects for growth and actively involve residents in the commune’s future.

Residents will decide the name of the bridge

Another element of the initiative is the organisation of a public consultation through which citizens will be able to propose and choose the name of the future suspension bridge. The mayor announced that this is only one of the projects currently in preparation and expressed confidence that the entire community will support the transformation of Parva into a modern and attractive tourist destination.
