Mark Rutte to Visit Bucharest: Romania Hosts NATO Industry Forum and Strengthens Strategic Partnership

President Nicușor Dan announced on Sunday that NATO Chief Mark Rutte will visit Romania next week, an event highlighting both the strengthening of strategic partnerships and Romania’s role within the North Atlantic Alliance.

The statement was made following the president’s participation in the official launch of Cătăin Drulă’s candidacy for Bucharest City Hall.

According to Nicușor Dan, Mark Rutte will arrive in Bucharest on Wednesday, with the NATO Industry Forum starting on Thursday. This biennial event brings together defense industry representatives, military leaders, and decision-makers from NATO member states, providing a platform for strategic dialogue and economic opportunities in the defense sector. “It is an important event for Romania, which strengthens our position within the Alliance and facilitates economic and industrial partnerships,” the president emphasized.

Exercises and Security

Regarding national security, Romania is currently hosting a major NATO exercise involving over 5,000 soldiers from various member states. Nicușor Dan noted that the Industry Forum and the military exercise are distinct but complementary events, each contributing to international cooperation and security. “The NATO Industry Forum is held every two years, and now it is in Bucharest, so we should not confuse the two events,” the president stated.

Regarding reports that U.S. congress members are attempting to block the withdrawal of American troops from Romania, the president emphasized that Romania does not interfere in the internal debates of other countries. “Romania is safe in terms of security, and our relationship with the United States is stable and linear. There is some symbolism involved, but it does not affect national security,” Nicușor Dan explained.

Economic and Industrial Implications

NATO Industry Forums are not only about politics and security—they also present major opportunities for Romania’s economic and technological development. Participation in such events allows domestic defense companies to access international contracts, develop advanced technologies, and attract strategic investments. By hosting the NATO Forum, Romania strengthens its position as a regional hub for defense and military technology, amid increasing demand for security equipment and infrastructure.
