Reflections at the end of the year: Ion ȘTEFANOVICI on his future and the future of the Moldova Region

The end of the year brings reflections on the journey so far and ambitious plans for the future. Ion Stefanovici, president of CAPDR, founder of MoldovaHUB, and initiator of large-scale projects for the Moldova region, shares the directions in which he will focus his energy in 2025.

From political and economic initiatives to supporting family and community, this interview captures the thoughts of a leader dedicated to regional and personal development.

Mr. Stefanovici, discussions are underway about supporting the creation of a new political party in Romania in 2025. What motivates you to take this step, and how do you envision its evolution?

ion stefanovici ferm 2024 modulul IV - Moldova InvestRomania needs a political direction focused on administrative-territorial reform, competitive regional development, and a new approach to reindustrialization and technological advancement. This party is not about me but about the urgent needs of our country.

It will be initiated in 2025, but we will work intensively over the coming years to adequately prepare it for the 2028 elections. It is a long-term construction project with a well-defined vision and a desire to offer real solutions for Romania’s development.

The book is about the lessons learned from fieldwork, as well as my ideas for the development of regions. It is also an approach regarding how we can turn adversities into opportunities. I hope it will inspire and provide a pragmatic guide for those who wish to contribute to the progress of their communities.

The Republic of Moldova is at a historic moment. How do you propose to support its EU accession process?

Collaboration between Romania and the Republic of Moldova is essential. Through CAPDR, we aim to provide technical support, bring European expertise to joint projects, and create economic and cultural bridges. EU accession is a vital step, and our support will remain consistent and resolute.

Ion ȘTEFANOVICI: “Give us in 2025, the ADMINISTRATIVE-TERRITORIAL REFORM of ROMANIA through REGIONALIZATION, in the context of the functioning of the European Union.”

I strongly believe that Euroregions are key to reconstruction and peace. We will continue to support them through technical assistance and cross-border programs that accelerate economic and social recovery. This endeavor goes beyond geopolitics, aiming to reconnect communities.

In 2025, the Regional Economic Forum Moldova will reach its 19th edition. What are your expectations for this event?

We want to position the Forum as a benchmark for Eastern Europe, attracting delegations from across the region. It is a moment when Moldova can show it is ready to collaborate at the highest level. The Forum in Vatra Dornei will reflect this commitment.

The mapping of economic opportunities in the context of establishing MoldovaHUB is a hotly debated topic. How do you see the development of this project along the strategic axis offered by the A7 Highway?

MoldovaHUB is a project that not only brings together economic actors but also creates a collaboration ecosystem around the A7 Highway, the most significant infrastructure investment in the region.

Mapping economic opportunities is key to leveraging this corridor: from local SMEs accessing larger markets to strategic investors developing industrial clusters.

MoldovaHUB will connect these entities with the necessary resources—whether financial, technical, or informational—transforming the A7 route into a sustainable economic growth hub for the entire region.

Ion Stefanovici, President of CAPDR: “We must no longer accept the subordination of Eastern Europe to Western Europe”

The Moldova Region has immense potential to become a regional and international economic hub. The “global outreach” strategy is based on promoting strategic investments in key sectors—from industry and agriculture to technology and tourism—while facilitating foreign trade through advantageous agreements and supporting local entrepreneurs to enter new markets.

Strategic mergers and acquisitions can accelerate this process, and well-coordinated lobbying, in partnership with Bucharest-based embassies, can open essential doors internationally. We must make our voice heard and transform the Moldova Region into a significant player in Eastern Europe and beyond.

Alongside these ambitious projects, how do you find balance between your professional and personal life?

For me, family is the foundation. My sons, Radovan and Andrei-Alexey, along with their mother, are the reason I keep fighting. They are my future and my source of energy. It is important to show them that work can be a form of love for the community, but family remains the ultimate priority.

Conclusion

Ion Stefanovici looks to 2025 with optimism and determination, convinced that his projects will bring significant benefits to the Moldova Region, Romania, and international partners. Balancing professional plans with personal priorities, he demonstrates that authentic leadership stems from commitment to both community and family.
