Romania and Moldova Target Completion of Bucharest-Chisinau Highway by 2030

Romania’s State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport, Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu, recently stated in Chișinău, at the invitation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova

“Our shared goal is to be able to travel from Bucharest to Chișinău by highway by 2030.” The official held meetings with the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, the General Director of Moldova Railways, Serghei Tomșa, and the General Director of the State Roads Administration, Sergiu Bejan, according to Rador Radio Romania.

During the discussions, the status of railway and road projects connecting Romania and the Republic of Moldova was analyzed, including the status of the A8 Unification Highway and the section connecting Ungheni (RO) to Chișinău (MD). Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu emphasized the importance of these initiatives on his Facebook page.

The visit included an assessment of the projects related to bridges over the Prut River and the customs points. The Giurgiulești – Galați Border Crossing will be the next one to have coordinated control.

Officials also discussed the possibilities for developing information technologies in railway transport, in line with European Union standards, considering the expertise available in the integration process.

Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu highlighted that “the implementation of these projects is necessary for the interconnection of Moldova’s transport systems with those of Romania and other EU member states, representing an important step in Moldova’s EU accession process.”
