Romania and the USA Collaborate to Modernize Healthcare: Investments in Robotic Surgery and Medical Training
Bucharest, September 2, 2025 – Romania is taking significant steps to modernize its healthcare system through strategic partnerships with centers of excellence in the United States, focusing on the development of robotic surgery and the enhancement of medical staff skills.
Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete emphasized that the meeting with Mrs. Lucia Sava, Romania’s Consul General in Los Angeles, aimed to identify concrete projects that would bring immediate benefits to both patients and doctors in Romania.
Exchange of Expertise and Advanced Professional Training
The discussions focused on creating continuous training and professional development programs for Romanian doctors, including specialized internships in leading US medical centers. Through these exchanges, medical staff will gain access to advanced techniques and protocols, which will be implemented in Romanian hospitals, increasing the quality of medical care.
“We aim to establish partnerships with centers of excellence in the United States for the development of robotic surgery in Romania. This initiative can transform the treatment of complex cases, offering patients higher chances of success and faster recoveries,” said Alexandru Rogobete.
Economic and Strategic Impact for Romania
The adoption of robotic surgery and cutting-edge medical technologies has significant economic implications. Robotic procedures can improve operational efficiency, reduce hospitalization duration, and lower costs associated with complex treatments. Additionally, international collaboration may attract research funding and grants, stimulating innovation and increasing the competitiveness of Romania’s medical sector.
Professional exchange programs will also contribute to retaining specialists in Romania—a major challenge for the healthcare system—and will generate valuable know-how applicable to the local context.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Development Perspectives
The Ministry of Health’s initiative strengthens bilateral relations between Romania and the USA in the medical and academic fields. Open dialogue and joint projects can create a sustainable framework for international collaboration, aimed at developing innovative solutions that support patients and provide Romanian doctors with state-of-the-art tools.
Through these measures, Romania aims to transform its healthcare system into a modern, competitive, and 21st-century-ready system, supporting economic development through innovation and improving the quality of medical services.
“This is a firm step toward modernizing Romanian medicine through innovation, knowledge, and international collaboration,” concluded Alexandru Rogobete.
