Romanian Builder Dorinel Umbrărescu Bids for a New Section of A8 Highway

Romanian builder Dorinel Umbrărescu has submitted a bid for the design and construction of the Pipirig – Vânători Neamț (Leghin) section, part of the A8 Union Highway

This marks another crucial step in the development of Romania’s road infrastructure, with Umbrărescu already having secured the contract for Section 3, Leghin – Târgu Neamț.

Competition for the Pipirig – Vânători Neamț (Leghin) Lot:
Cristian Pistol, General Director of the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR), announced that three bids have been submitted for this project. “An important step forward for the construction of a new section of A8! Today, three bids were submitted for the design and construction of the Pipirig – Vânători Neamț (Leghin) lot, part of the Târgu Mureș – Târgu Neamț (A8) highway,” Pistol stated on his Facebook page.

The three bids submitted are:

  1. Danlin XXL SRL Consortium (leader) – Intertranscom Impex SRLMithras Build SRL (Romania);
  2. Ozaltin Insaat Ticaret VE Sanayi AS Consortium (leader) – Infravis SRL (Turkey – Romania);
  3. SA&PE Construct SRL ConsortiumSpedition UMB SRLTehnostrade SRLEuro-Asfalt d.o.o. (Romania – Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Contract and Project Details:
The contract is funded through the Transport Program (#PT) and has an estimated maximum value of 3.38 billion lei (excluding VAT). The total duration of the contract is 48 months, with 12 months allocated for design and 36 months for construction. This section of the highway will span 19.3 kilometers and will include the construction of 7 tunnels with a total length of 1.44 kilometers.

Planned Tunnels:
The following tunnels will be constructed along this section:

  • A 490-meter bidirectional tunnel near Pîțîligeni;
  • A 90-meter unidirectional tunnel on road 1, also near Pîțîligeni;
  • A 70-meter bidirectional tunnel between Pîțîligeni and Stînca;
  • A 130-meter bidirectional tunnel between the same localities;
  • An 80-meter unidirectional tunnel on road 1, between the same localities;
  • A 300-meter bidirectional tunnel near Stînca;
  • A 280-meter bidirectional tunnel also near Stînca.

Project Impact:
The completion of this section of the A8 highway will significantly enhance regional and national connectivity, facilitating the connection between Transylvania and Moldova. The project is part of a broader plan to develop Romania’s transport infrastructure, aiming to reduce travel times and improve road safety.
