Dedeman invests in the development of a 4.6-hectare commercial complex in Iași

Dedeman Bacău, the market leader in Romania’s DIY retail sector, is expanding its business in Iași through a significant project that marks the company’s entry into the commercial leasing market

he Pavăl brothers, Dedeman’s founders, plan to construct a large commercial complex on a 4.6-hectare plot strategically located near Carrefour Felicia, in an area undergoing rapid urban development. This investment comes amid growing demand for commercial spaces and will play a key role in reshaping Iași’s retail landscape.

Though the project is in its early stages, Dedeman officials confirmed to “Ziarul de Iași” their intention to develop and lease commercial spaces on this site. “The Iași project aims to build commercial buildings that will be leased. More details will be provided later,” Dedeman representatives stated. Currently, the company is working on drafting the zonal urban plan (PUZ), a crucial step toward obtaining the necessary construction permits.

The commercial complex will be part of an area experiencing accelerated modernization. Nearby, key projects like the Silk District complex are in development, bringing a mix of office, residential, and retail spaces. Additionally, Kaufland is preparing to open a retail park nearby, complemented by a residential project that will enhance the area’s real estate offering. These investments, combined with the construction of a modern high school, are turning the district into a new economic and educational hub.

As for the land, Dedeman does not own the site but has leased multiple adjacent parcels from Iași City Hall. The concession contract was signed in October 2008 for a period of 49 years, following a public auction held by the municipality. This long-term lease provides Dedeman with a stable foundation to carry out the project, ensuring the company has the necessary continuity for the development of the commercial complex.

This strategic move reflects the Pavăl brothers’ desire to diversify Dedeman’s portfolio and strengthen their presence in the commercial real estate sector. The investment in Iași will not only stimulate the local economy by creating new jobs but also attract new retailers eager to set up shop in the upcoming commercial complex.
