Republic of Moldova and India have signed several agreements regarding migration, cooperation in the energy sector, and diplomatic collaboration. The signing of the documents was carried out by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, together with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Both officials approved a Declaration of Intent on Migration, a document that will create new opportunities for collaboration in workforce mobility and expertise exchanges.
Additionally, Minister Mihai Popșoi signed the Republic of Moldova’s accession agreement to the International Solar Alliance (ISA), thereby strengthening cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the field of green energy.
In parallel, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the diplomatic institutions of the foreign ministries of both countries, marking an essential step in developing diplomatic competencies and promoting the exchange of experience between the Republic of Moldova and India.
During an official meeting, the leaders of the two diplomats emphasized the positive progress of the politico-diplomatic dialogue and the clear trend towards revitalizing bilateral trade exchanges. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed the Republic of Moldova’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations by intensifying collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, education, culture, and health.
Furthermore, Minister Mihai Popșoi highlighted the importance of recent interministerial political consultations and the continuation of dialogue on topics related to trade exchanges and investments. At the same time, the official presented the main priorities of the country’s foreign policy, particularly the objective of integration into the European Union.
Another important point discussed during the ministers’ meeting was the progress in the process of liberalizing the export of fresh fruits from the Republic of Moldova to India, with the parties set to announce the implementation date of the decision. This step represents a significant move towards market diversification and increasing the competitiveness of Moldovan products internationally.
The officials also addressed the prospects of an Indian aviation operator entering the Republic of Moldova’s market and agreed to negotiate an aviation agreement to facilitate Indian investments in this sector.
Discussions between the foreign ministers also focused on recent developments related to regional and international security, the Russian Federation’s aggression war against Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mihai Popșoi invited India’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to make an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. Today, Foreign Ministers Mihai Popșoi and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar participated in the official inauguration ceremony of the Republic of Moldova Embassy in New Delhi.
From December 15-16 of this year, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi is on a working visit to New Delhi, India, at the invitation of his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The agenda of the discussions includes topics of mutual interest, with an emphasis on deepening politico-diplomatic, economic, and commercial cooperation.
