Minister of Development, Adrian Veștea: “Administrative-territorial reorganization, a national project for Romania”
Adrian Veștea, the Minister of Development, declared to B1 TV that the future Government and the future Parliament, resulting from the elections, must take on the responsibility of amending the Constitution to allow for the administrative-territorial reorganization of the country.
Administrative-territorial reorganization a priority for Romania
Minister of Development, Adrian Veștea, emphasized the importance of Romania’s administrative-territorial reorganization, considering that this process should be one of the main projects for the future Government and Parliament.
“First of all, I believe this process needs to start as soon as possible. It’s an aspect that will undoubtedly lead to the economic efficiency of Romania. We have discussed this during this mandate. We have started such a process precisely because it needs to be a national project that a future government must assume,” stated Adrian Veștea.
He emphasized that, in the context of the recent electoral year, the first steps for next year should aim at improving the legal framework through constitutional amendments to enable this process.
“This year, we went through several electoral processes, (…) and starting next year, the first steps I believe need to be taken would be to improve the legal framework, finding the possibility, through constitutional amendment, to allow this process to proceed. Until now, this process has only led to the creation of more local administrations. (…)
By amending the Constitution, we should be able to permit the legal framework to start this administrative-territorial reorganization process,” explained the minister.
Veștea highlighted the necessity of a public awareness campaign regarding the benefits of administrative reorganization, emphasizing that this step will lead to improved quality of life in communities.
“A public awareness campaign must be started for all Romanian citizens, emphasizing that this aspect will lead to an improved quality of life in every community. This must be done seriously,” he declared.
The minister concluded that administrative-territorial reorganization must be a national project assumed by the future Government, noting that this measure will significantly contribute to Romania’s economic efficiency.
“It must be a government-assumed project, a national project that will lead to economic efficiency for Romania,” declared Adrian Veștea.
Benefits of administrative-territorial reorganization
One of the main benefits is the reduction of socio-economic disparities between different regions of the country. Territorial reorganization can facilitate a more balanced distribution of resources and investments, ensuring that all regions benefit from equal opportunities for growth and development. As a result, less developed areas can gain access to funds and projects that stimulate local economies and improve the standard of living for citizens.
Administrative efficiency is another major advantage. By consolidating administrative-territorial units, bureaucracy can be reduced, and coordination between various administrative entities can be improved. This leads to a more judicious use of human and financial resources, eliminating overlaps and increasing the efficiency of administrative processes.
Additionally, territorial reorganization contributes to increased economic efficiency. A more simplified administrative structure allows for better management of resources and the implementation of coherent economic policies. The economies of scale resulting from administrative consolidation can lead to a better allocation of public funds and more effective management of development projects.
Infrastructure is another area that can benefit considerably from reorganization. Through more coherent planning and implementation of infrastructure projects, such as roads, water and sewage networks, and other public utilities, faster and more uniform development of infrastructure can be ensured. This not only improves citizens’ living conditions but also creates a more attractive environment for investments.
Finally, increasing the quality of public services is another essential benefit of administrative-territorial reorganization. By consolidating administrative units, the provision of better and more uniform public services, such as education, health, and public safety, can be ensured. This contributes to an overall improvement in quality of life and increased citizen satisfaction with the services provided by the state.
