Europe’s largest agricultural produce TRANSSHIPMENT terminal, inaugurated in Dornești, Suceava

Today, May 31, 2024, the inauguration of the largest agricultural product transshipment terminal in Europe took place in Dornești

Romania has had and continues to have a major role in the operation of solidarity corridors created by the countries of the European Union to facilitate the transit of grain exports from Ukraine, essential for ensuring food security in underdeveloped areas of Africa and Asia, as well as for global trade flows.

The new grain transshipment complex located on the border with Ukraine, in Suceava County, the town of Dornești, is the sixth terminal operated by the GRAMPET Group through its flagship company GRUP FEROVIAR ROMAN. The investment of 10 million EURO marks a new chapter in the group’s efforts to participate in the development of Romania and support the reconstruction of Ukraine.

The event, attended by the President of the Suceava County Council, Gheorghe Flutur, brings together approximately 200 people: members of the Governments of Romania and Ukraine, central and local public authorities, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the business environment, central and local press.

Among the participants in the event are Gruia Stoica, President of GRAMPET GRUP, Radu Oprea, Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Victor Ponta, Honorary Advisor to the Prime Minister, Florin Spătaru, State Counselor in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, and Mircea Abrudean, Secretary General of the Government, Ruslan Zaparaniuk, Head of the State Regional Administration of Chernivtsi, Ihor Prokopchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Romania, Irinel Scriosteanu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport, Mihai Precup, President of AMEPIP, and Marcel Simion Mutescu, President of the Customs Authority.

“Today, in Dornești, a great day! Investment has been made in transporting grain from Ukraine by train. A transfer of 3 and a half million tons of grain annually, from Ukrainian wagons to Romanian wagons. It will happen here, it’s about four train sets per day, each with 32 wagons. This means fewer trucks on Romania’s roads, this means less – close to zero – evasion in grain trade, it means support for our Ukrainian neighbors, but it also means civilized trade.”

Investment of 10 million euros, around 50 jobs in Dornești. I’m glad investors have come. It’s a beginning, and we want to continue here on the border with Ukraine and other investments: the road from Vicov to the A7 Motorway, A7 Motorway, these are expected investments in this northern part of the country!”, stated the President of the Suceava County Council, Gheorghe Flutur.

The President of the Center for Analysis and Planning of Regional Development (C.A.P.D.R.), Ion Ștefanovici, emphasized that “The project represents a significant investment by the Grampet Group, a leader in the rail transport and logistics sector in Central and Eastern Europe. This investment underscores the commitment of the Grampet Group to support the development of critical infrastructure and contribute to the economic growth of the Moldova Region.”
