The Government allocates over 2.3 million lei to the “Victor Ion Popa” Theatre in Bârlad, as part of a national funding program for local cultural institutions

The Government of Romania has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Development, the allocation of a total amount of 188,569,873.21 lei to support 74 theatres, opera houses, and philharmonic orchestras in 48 localities, operating under the authority of local public administrations in 34 counties.

Funding for the “Victor Ion Popa” Theatre in Bârlad

In this context, the “Victor Ion Popa” Theatre in Bârlad will benefit from funding amounting to 2,304,066 lei, intended to support its cultural activities.

Purpose of the Government Measure

The Minister of Development, Cseke Attila, emphasized that this measure aims to support performing arts institutions—namely theatres, opera houses, philharmonic orchestras, and puppet theatres—that do not receive direct funding from the state budget and operate under the authority of local administrations.

Source of the Allocated Funds

The funds are derived from 2% of the income tax collected during the period from 1 September to 10 December 2025 and are earmarked exclusively for financing public performing arts institutions under the authority of administrative-territorial units.

Criteria for the Allocation of Funds

The distribution of the amounts was carried out based on applications submitted within the legal deadline by the local authorities under whose authority the public performing arts institutions operate.
