The communes of Viișoara and Roșiești invest 450,000 lei in sustainable mobility: an electric minibus for rural public transport
The commune of Viișoara and the commune of Roșiești in Vaslui County are preparing to introduce a medium-capacity electric minibus into the local public transport system, accompanied by a slow charging station. The initiative is part of a broader program aimed at modernizing the fleet of vehicles used for passenger transport, with a focus on reducing emissions and aligning public services with environmental requirements assumed at European level.
From a technical standpoint, the planned vehicle is an electric minibus in the M2 category, designed to transport up to 19 passengers, plus the driver’s seat. It is a new, series-production model, without subsequent modifications, ensuring compatibility between the propulsion system, batteries, and charging infrastructure, as well as predictable behavior in rural traffic conditions.
A central element is the real-world electric range, demonstrated through standardized tests conducted in laboratories accredited at European level, guaranteeing that the minibus can cover daily routes without frequent interruptions for recharging.
The included charging station is of the slow/standard type, adapted for daily use and ideal for rural communes, where the vehicle can be charged overnight or between trips, without major investments in infrastructure.
The impact on the community is significant: the introduction of the electric minibus provides predictable, quiet, and comfortable transport, especially for students, elderly residents, or individuals dependent on public transport. The reduced noise level and absence of vibrations contribute to a better passenger experience and a less acoustically polluted environment.
Environmental benefits include the elimination of local exhaust gas emissions, with a direct effect on air quality in the central areas of the communes, where traffic takes place on narrow streets.
From an economic perspective, operating costs are lower than those of a diesel vehicle, both in terms of energy consumption and maintenance of the propulsion system, providing local authorities with financial predictability and the opportunity to redirect resources toward other public services.

Overall, the project reflects a shift in approach to public transport in rural areas: from minimal solutions focused exclusively on cost, to solutions that integrate environmental, comfort, and sustainability criteria. Even if the scale of the investment is limited, the effects on local mobility and quality of life can be felt quickly, especially in communities where transport alternatives are scarce.
