WALDEVAR Energy wants to build a floating solar panel factory in Romania

Cristian Dragomir, Project Management Officer and Bidding Manager at WALDEVAR Energy, disclosed that the company plans to increase its workforce from the current 500 employees to 800 this year. Additionally, the company is contemplating the establishment of a floating solar panel factory in Romania. WALDEVAR Energy has forged a strategic partnership with the world’s largest floating manufacturer to set up a facility in Romania, aiming to meet the demand for floating systems in Europe.

Speaking at the round table “Regional Approach Athens – Cooperation,” organized by Energynomics, Dragomir expressed confidence in the increase of installed capacity over the next 3-5 years. However, he raised questions about the operation and maintenance of the new units.

WALDEVAR Energy has already developed several ground-mounted photovoltaic parks in Romania, with capacities ranging from a few megawatts to several tens of megawatts. Last year, with a construction capacity of 2 megawatts per day, the company installed 290 megawatts of solar panels. In Energynomics’ PV Monitor of utility-scale projects, Waldevar is listed with 6 projects delivered, each exceeding 5 MW, totaling 163 MW.

Dragomir emphasized Romania’s advantageous position in terms of energy security and diversity. However, he noted that the aging infrastructure requires reinforcement. He questioned whether floating solar panels could offer a viable solution and stressed the need for assessment.
